Concentration
The idea I wanted to convey through my concentration is how emotions, a huge factor in our lives, aren't always felt the same. What I wanted to do with each piece is push myself to get into the minds of the people I interviewed to understand how they feel a certain emotion, as well as exert my creative thinking and broaden the media and depth of layers I used within each piece. The first piece I started in this process was "Jealousy". I began with the background, but after became stuck and was unsure if my idea for the concentration would be able to work. After bouncing a few ideas around in my head, and repainting over different patterns of paint I tried, I finally found something that would work for the look I was going for. After completing this first piece, I felt I needed to expand the media I used within the following pieces, and had attempted to incorporate something completely different within them, such as yarn, string, wire, newspaper, glass, glitter, duct tape, etc. In each piece I wanted there to be visual textures that help portray the emotion as well as better define the figure of that piece. With finishing the 12 pieces, I found that some emotions were harder to communicate through the artwork than others, and that I discovered how even though most of the emotions weren’t how I would picture them myself, a little bit of my own take was put into each piece.
